REPORT: Sox Going After Garza
Some nerd over at CBSSports.com is reporting that the Red Sox are in the mahhhket for pitching as the deadline approaches and one potential tahhhget might be Cubs' "ace" Matt Garza.
I put ace in quotations because Garza kind of sucks this year. He's 4-7 with a 4.26 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. But he does have 99 K's in 95 innings, which is pretty dec.
Even though he literally spits all the time and has an awkwardly high voice, I'm a pretty big Garza fan mostly due to his solid AL East pedigree. Last year with Tampa Bay, he went 15-10 with a 3.91 ERA and 150 K's in a little over 200 innings. That's pretty hard to do when two of the teams in your division have one player that makes more than your entire team.
If the Sox traded for Garza, they would add another proven playoff guy. I remember back in 2008 I would've Nancy Kerrigan'ed the shit out of Garza's knee if I could've because he was unhittable in the playoffs.
Plus, a rotation of Lester, Beckett, Buchholz, Garza, Lackey would just be dirty.
To get Garza, the Sox might have to deal a MLB-ready arm like Doubront or Kyle Weiland, plus a Josh Reddick or Ryan Kalish. At least that's what the nerd alert who wrote that article says.
So we'll see what happens in the coming weeks but I think Garza would be a sick addition for the right price.
