Boston Street-Tough Kevin Youkilis Heads to DL; Sox Call Up Lavarnway
I don't know if you know this, but Kevin Youkilis is the toughest dude in the MLB. Just today he had to be placed on the 15-day DL after what had to be a grueling battle with his back injury.
He frequently winces in pain, which just shows you how much it hurts to step on first base or even swing a bat on deck.
Honestly, I like Youk. I really do. He epitomizes everything you want in a baseball player for the most part.
But the "for the most part" is now the problem.
Youk is definitely a dirt dawg and a grinder, but when he is not producing or, in this case, not playing, the absurdity of his antics becomes prevalent. Tried to sound smart at the end there. I think it worked.
Seriously, it gets really old really fast.
Back in college, my roommates used to leave a box of tissues above the TV with the words "For Youkilis" on it.
But anyways, the good news is the Sox called up Ryan Lavarnway and he is your starting DH tonight. He is also probably shitting his pants right now because it will be his Major League debut.
Lavarnway was annihilating AA and AAA before falling into a 5-for-40 slump. Overall, he is hitting .293 with 30 bombs, 85 RBI, 71 runs and a .931 OPS in 110 games this year.
